Renew your spirits with a unique 3-days/2-nights Zen tour designed to restore mindfulness and tranquility to your life. Purify your spirit with a two-night Shukubo stay in a Zen temple, with Zen meditation guided by the temple’s monks and Shoujin Ryori vegetarian breakfasts. Our first day begins with your Zen meditation class, after which you take a temple tour conducted by the monks, then check into your shukubo lodgings. We can take you around the tranquil and less-visited temples of this area, or leave you to rest and practice your new meditation techniques at the shukubo if you wish.
On Day 2 we do a mind-expanding Visual Haiku photowalk through a selection of Kyoto’s most tranquil temples and walking trails. We’ll show you why Japan’s most famous poet Matsuo Basho was really a photographer (in spirit, that is), and through his lessons learn to see the world again with a child’s wonderment.
Our last day starts with a tour of Kinkakuji, the gilded villa of Shogun Yoshimitsu that is now a Zen temple, and finishes with a genuine and private Tea Ceremony experience in kimono.
Includes a 2-night Shukubo stay with breakfast (vegetarian), Zen class and meditation in English, Visual Haiku photography lesson and photowalk, tours of selected Zen temples including Kinkakuji, private Tea Ceremony in English with kimono rental, all transport, all admission fees, 3 lunches, luggage storage in Kyoto Station (one piece), and we personally conduct this tour.
Please bring only a small handcarried bag with you on the tour for convenience. There is limited room for luggage in the temple guesthouse, and you will have to walk carrying your bag to and from the accommodation. You can leave your suitcase in the Kyoto Station Baggage Room, and reclaim it at the end of the tour for the rest of your trip. Storage is on us for one piece of luggage.
