I’ll meet up with you early morning for a photowalk through the byways of Gion before the tourist stampede begins; starting with a haunting hillside Buddist graveyard, past the gates of Kiyomizudera, and down to the beautiful old areas along the Ninnenzaka and Nene-no-Michi. Enjoy photographing the lovely period architecture of the teahouses and shops here, then switch to street shooting mode as people begin to arrive.

Cathy will bring your family to Kiyomizudera later in the morning (currently under reconstruction but still enjoyable), then follow us to Yasaka Shrine where we’ll meet up with them. We then take you all to lunch, and tour the Gion geisha district together. Along the way we’ll treat your family to a tasting of wagashi, Japanese sweets, and Japanese street food. We end the day with sunset at the Pontocho (you may want to bring a tripod), after which we either take you back to Kyoto Station or help you find a place to have dinner.
