Why is autumn our favorite season to visit Kyoto? We’ll let our pictures do the talking! 🙂

These photos were taken at the Arashiyama Momiji Festival, which is held every year (weather permitting) to herald in the start of the autumn season in Kyoto.

It was still too early in the season for the mountainside to be filled with color but the colorful spectacle from the festival more than made up for it.

Sunrise was cloudy and the sun played peekaboo the entire morning but that was just fine for photographing this highly colorful festival because we did not have to deal with too much harsh contrast of colors. Rain had threatened the day before so we were very happy that the weather cooperated and the organizers pushed through with this event.

The graceful presence of the Hozu river denizens gave us photographers and festival goers alike more reasons to cheer before the start of the parade. (Now, if only the ducks would go where we want them to go :))
