Akimahen: Don’ts for Tourists

Last December, I witnessed a fistfight erupt at Kinkakuji between some tourists, and the Japanese policeman who stopped it received a few punches himself. Will there ever be a time when Kyoto’s residents simply pull the plug and say No More to foreign tourists? It could happen, you know. Kyoto is so popular a destination to the Japanese, and Japanese domestic tourism so strong, that I’m afraid they just might do it. Unlikely, but possible.

So let’s make sure the welcome mat stays out for us by following these rules. The Kyoto city government got Tripadvisor to help them come out with this handy infographic on how to stay on good terms with the nice people of Kyoto (they really are so nice!).
